E.F. Benson, principally known for the very funny Mapp and Lucia series, onetime Mayor of Rye in East Sussex and figure skater for England, was a prolific short story writer. He was often compared with M.R. James, an almost-contemporary, but where James was considered to be the master of the genre, Benson is more often remembered for his good-natured humour and convivial gift for satire.
The E. F. Benson Papers consist of writings, correspondence, and business and financial files, documenting Benson's fiction-writing career and spanning the years 1894 to 1929.
